The award that consumers trust in

The Germany’s Favourite is a reliable guide through the product jungle that can help consumers make informed purchasing decisions.

The German market is teeming with brands, service providers and products designed to enrich and simplify our everyday lives. Given the constantly growing selection, it is not always easy to maintain an overview and find the right product. Customers are increasingly asking themselves which reviews and offers they can trust. Germany’s Favourite offers just that: real consumer reviews that help customers make smart purchasing decisions and avoid disappointment.

A reliable guide

Whether it’s a new coffee machine that makes the morning perfect, a modern robot vacuum cleaner that makes breakfast crumbs disappear in the blink of an eye or an e-bike that takes leisure activities to a new level – the choice of products and services seems endless. It can be overwhelming for customers to keep track of the wide range of offers and find the best product for their own needs and requirements. Many therefore use reviews as an important guide before buying new products: A study by Capterra (Bahr, 2020) shows that 39 percent of consumers regularly consult online reviews before making potentially costly purchases. The trend? Continuing to rise.

At the same time, however, these and similar studies also recognise a certain mistrust among customers – because positive reviews can also be fake and not even come from real people. More than half of the consumers surveyed by Capterra even assume that 50 percent or more of all online reviews are fake. And even if the digital review is genuine, different consumers rate the products they buy in very subjective ways. While some customers attach great importance to a harmonious product design (and are willing to pay more money for it), others would rather compromise on quality to guarantee a low price. The search for reviews that can be trusted without reservation is becoming increasingly demanding from the consumer’s point of view. This is where the Germany‘s Favourite comes into play.

The Germany‘s Favourite is an award that is given by real consumers on the basis of an evaluation. Initiated by the SZ Institut of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and carried out by the market research company INNOFACT, this award promises a high level of credibility and independence. It is a seal of quality that offers consumers clear guidance when choosing products. The award is based on comprehensive and independent consumer reviews and reflects the opinion of potential customers. Whether it’s a relaxing face mask, an ergonomic school bag for children or environmentally friendly fertiliser for the home garden, the Germany‘s Favourite provides customers with the guidance they need to make informed purchasing decisions.

Always up to date

Germany‘s Favourite regularly provides up-to-date information: Depending on the manufacturers’ submissions, new consumer opinions can be published every month and new products can be honoured. Thanks to these regular updates, consumers are always up to date and informed about all market developments. Of course, the ratings of previous products can also be called up at any time.

The methodology

Manufacturers must actively register their products for evaluation at Germany‘s Favourite.

Each product is rated by at least 200 consumers according to the criteria of overall appeal, relevance, likelihood of purchase, uniqueness, quality, sustainability, functionality, design and value for money. The personal importance of the evaluation criteria is determined by each test person themselves in order to reflect their own interests and priorities. The fact that the different evaluation behaviour of consumers can be represented in this way makes the methodology ideal for the broad spectrum of products in the Germany‘s Favourite comparison. The evaluation is based on the image material and the product description provided; consumers rate their first impression including the price of the product – just as consumers would do in the real purchasing process.

The ratings are based on a 6-point scale analogous to the familiar german school grading system, which makes it easier for consumers to categorise the product. Only products with an overall rating of VERY GOOD or GOOD receive the Germany‘s Favourite award.
